Gurten is a hill near Wabern which is the southern suburbs of Bern. It is an area of leisure from where you have a panoramic view to the city of Bern. Since 1899 it is possible to reach the summit with a funicular.

In 1999, the funicular was completely rebuilt by Dopplemayr. The new panoramic cabins have a compartment for a conductor but only on the top end of each cabin. They are built on two boggies and the cable is fixed to the cabin with a drum.
There is an intermediate stop at the siding.
