Chain Saw Massacre in Norway

Another sad news that just came to me today… since this week the famous Norwegian funicular Mågelibanen, opened in 1912, is being massacred and cut up to make way for a road that will replace it.

For safety reasons the funicular was forced shutdown since 2012.
Lack of financial means to put the standards, the municipality of Odda has decided to build a road between Skjeggedal and Hardangervidda plateau at the top of the funicular, very well-known by hikers. This road should have about 15 laces and must cut the funicular track 8 times!

Road work began this week and the rails and the track of Mågelibanen have already been cut several times to give way to the road.  There is now a dispute between the municipality of Odda and the society that is building the road. Everything was not done properly. The work is currently stopped.
But the killing is done and no return is possible.
Although there is virtually no chance that the cable car is back on, why not have chosen a path that saves the path of the cable car and keeps Mågelibanen in his original state?
Why this massacre ???!!! :-((

Voie et parcours::

Some news of funicular Châtelard – Emosson

Here are some news of the Amusement Park Châtelard SA and especially its iconic funicular.

Funicular Châtelard  Emosson (or Châtelard Les Montuires) stopped its operations since the end of the 2012 season.
The Federal Office of Transport (OFT) asked the Amusement Park Châtelard SA to modify its funicular to be conform to safety and accessibility standards.
Already in 1995, the park renovated machinery, automation and sanitized funicular track and art works.
The latest requirements of the OFT involved the construction of new and closed cars with more seating, opening doors on both sides and platforms accessible to disabled people.
These additional financial burdens could not be supported by the Park. The OFT accepted that the operation of the funicular was continued until the end of the 2012 season but after that the park had to close.
7.5 million Swiss francs were needed to meet the requirements of the OFT.
The town Finhaut on which is the Amusement Park Chatelard, was called in to help raise the money needed for the renovation.
A capital increase was considered.
In June 2014, the municipality agreed almost unanimously to take control of Amusement Park Chatelard to renovate the funicular.

The renovation work will therefore focus on:

Track:
The route with its maximum slope of 87% will be retained as the funicular will always be the steepest in the world with two cabins.
Journey time will be reduced and at peak hours, departing every 10 minutes is expected.
To allow an extended fall and spring operating a snow blower is provided on a trolley in front of the cab to clear the way.
The cable will be changed and provided by Fatzer.

Cabins:
– The funicular Châtelard has been classified in the Swiss inventory of cableways (reference 61.056) by the Federal Office of Culture (OFC), an agreement was reached with the OFT not to make false old and new cabins will be built.
Both aluminum cabins will be replaced by two new ones larger than 20 cm and 4 m longer to accommodate 35 seated passengers and heavier (11 tons instead of 6 tonnes currently) and will include a front door to that passengers can evacuate using the existing staircase between the rails of the track.
The new cabins will be built by Gangloff and old cabins will be given to the Museum of Transport in Lucerne.
The ballast wagon will be removed.

Machinery:
– To withstand the heaviest new cabins, a new machinery will be provided by Garaventa with a winding in8′ with two grooves on a single drive pulley but with three coaxial external pulleys.

Accessibility:
The piers will be modified to comply with norms on accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

New opening planned: Late May 2015
