Où se trouve ce funiculaire?

It is an underground electric contactor… it was used on old electric tramways in many cities in the world! On these old tramways, the contactor was moving in a central gorge between the rails.
Here this system is used today on the haulage (towing) cog locomotives at the Panama Canal.
The underground contactor is moving in a gorge which is not between the rails… but outside the rails!
Il s'agit d'un sabot souterrain servant de contacteur pour l’alimentation électrique… système très utilisés sur les anciens tramways urbains! Le sabot prenait le courant au fond d'un conduit souterrain situé entre les deux rails.
Ce sabot est utilisé de nos jours sur les motrices à crémaillère qui tirent (halent) les navires lors du passage du canal de Panama!
Le sabot est prend toujours le courant au fond d'un conduit souterrain mais situé à l'extérieur des rails, du côté opposé au côté utilisé pour le halages.

Solution du Quiz n° 14 - Bonsecours, France

So it was the 'Cote des Aigles' at Bonsecours, near Rouen in France. At the end of the XIXth century, a basilica and a monument were erected to the memory of Jeanne d'Arc (burnt by the English at Rouen in 1431).
At the same time a funicular was built in 1892 to take the visitors up to the monuments.
In 1915 the funicular was stopped because of the competition with the Bonsecours tramway… today there is no remain of this funicular!
So the sheep… they symbolize the sheep which were looked after by Jeanne d'Arc before she heard Saint Michael voice asking her to drive out English from France and to crow her king Charles VII!
Il s'agit donc de la 'Cote des Aigles' à Bonsecours, à côté de Rouen. A la fin du XIXème siècle y fut érigé une basilique et un monument à la mémoire de Jeanne d'Arc (brûlée par les anglais à Rouen en 1431).
En même temps, un funiculaire fut construit en 1892 pour y amener les visiteurs à partir du bord de la Seine en contrebas.
En 1915, seulement, le funiculaire a été arrêté à cause de la concurrence du tramway de Bonsecours… depuis il a complètement disparu!
Et bien les moutons… symbolisent les moutons qui étaient gardés par Jeanne d'Arc avant qu'elle n'entende la voix de l'archange Saint Michel lui demandant de bouter les anglais hors de France et de faire couronner son roi Charles VII!
