Standseilbahn Niesenbahn

New videos of funicular Niesenbahn.
Niesen, officially called the Swiss pyramid, majestically overlooks the lake of Thun top of its 2362 meters. To go there is a funicular which celebrates its century of existence in 2010. In fact there is not one but two funiculars … two cable cars put together in two sections are required to climb the 1670 meters in altitude.

Niesenbahn – new paintings on the carriages

NIESENBHAN AG used the period of inactivity of the funicular to change the paintings of the cars.
In 2009, only the cars 2 and 4 of the first section have been repainted in red with the new logo with its reversed letter N.
The reopening with the new cars will be on Mai 1st 2009 for the first day of the 2009 season.
The two other cars will be repainted in 2010.
When I saw the full modernization of the Gurtenbahn, Beatenbergbahn and Harderbahn… I told myself that the next full modernization will be the Niesenbahn because it was quite the only funicular of the canton of Berne which is still with 1960s Gangloff cars… but if NIESENBHAN AGdecided to repaint the cars instead it means that the full modernization is no longer an issue during the next years!

The cars with the new paintings, but without the chassis, have been delivered by truck on the car park of the Mülenen bottom station.

An helicopter is used to bring the cars on the rails of the first section!

There is no more than 150 meters between the car park and the point where the cars are put on the rails (on the left bank)… but the truck cannot reach the left bank of the river!

The helicopter is also used to adjust the cars on their chassis.
