Le Treport – Start of the second phase

You remember Le Tréport and its historical funicular which transported the tourists up to the top of the cliff between 1902 and 1939. To ease congestion in le Tréport, the town council decided to build a car park at the top of the cliff with a new transportation system composed of two inclined lifts passing thru the West tunnel of the old funicular to reach the town at the bottom of the slope. After problems, the inclined lifts were opened to the public in 2006 while the East tunnel was unused.
For a few weeks, the works started again in the East tunnel… the goal is to install two more inclined lifts in that tunnel with the enlargement of the top and bottom stations.
Unfortunately during the works on the East track, the inclined lifts on the West tracks must be stopped for security reasons!
Le two new lifts are planned to open in June 2009.

Today, the front wall of the tunnels is really bleak ! So I have a suggestion to the town council… it consists to refresh and restore that front wall… to give it a nice appearence and why not put again the old inscription on the top of the tunnel “TREPORT – TERRASSE”!

At that time it looked great !

Le Treport, reopening on November 15th, 2006?

The new funicular of Le Treport (France) is closed since the end of August 2006. After many technical hitches the Le Treport Council decided to stop in order to let Maspero find the solutions to the problems!
Among these problems, the two cabins are independent and one cabin is used for the evacuation of the other one… but in case of problem of one cabin it is impossible to evacuate the passengers of the other cabin if it has problems also. So in this case they had to call the firefighters to evacuate the passengers! There are also electricity supply problems because of use of batteries instead of electric contactors. The choice of electric contactors was not chosen because of oxidation risk near the sea.
The funicular is planed to be reopened for commercial operations for November 15th 2006…

Le Tréport – The opening is postponed !

Le Tréport (France), August 10, 2006.

The new funicular was planed to re-open on August 9, 2006… On that day the decision was taken to postpone the opening to September, may be!

Unbelievable but true… the reason is that the two cabins rub against the inner surface of the tunnel!

How is it possible to discover that the cabins cannot pass thru the tunnel?

How is it possible to discover this problem the last day?!

Now, there are two solutions, either move the two cabins 14 cm closer, or to scrape the inner part of the tunnel!

Tréport- Terrasse, on the right track !

Le Tréport, Seine maritime, France. March 23rd, 2005.Some news from Le Tréport…The new project is on the right track.

The project is at the moment in the phase of consolidating the rocks on the cliff.

The manufacturer of the inclined lifts will be chosen in June 2005, the construction will start on August 2005 and the opening is planed for June 2006.

MDP Ingenierie Conseil, Meylan, France is managing the project.

In fact the new funicular will be composed of two independent inclined automatic lifts. The two lifts will both pass thru the same tunnel (West tunnel). The other tunnel (East) will be unused unless it is necessary to increase the capacity. Each lift will be composed of a single cabin with a capacity of 14 passengers.
