Stanserhorn-Bahn – First 3D views of the CabriO®

Here are two 3D views of the future cabin Cabrio^® cabins , the new aerial cable car of the Stanserhorn-Bahn which will come into operation on 1 May 2012.
The cable car is built by Garaventa and Gangloff is responsible for the construction of these cabins.
Recall that the Cabrio^® is a world first with its distinction of having an open upper platform which is accessible by an internal spiral staircase.

Voici deux vues 3D des futures cabines du CabriO^® , le nouveau téléphérique du Stanserhorn-Bahn qui entrera en service le 1er mai 2012.
Le téléphérique est construit par Garaventa et Gangloff est chargé de la construction de ces cabines.
Rappelons que le CabriO^{® sera}une première mondiale par sa particularité de posséder une plate forme supérieure ouverte à l’air libre qui est accessible par un escalier intérieur en colimaçon.

The first section of the Stanserhorn-Bahn is still a funicular! The two other sections which were also funiculars were replaced by an aerial cable car in the 70s. Now this aerial cable car is dismantled and replaced by a complete new one… the CabriO^® !
La première section du Stanserhorn-Bahn est toujours un funiculaire. Les deux autres sections qui étaient à l’origine aussi des funiculaires ont été remplacées par un téléphérique dans les années 70. Actuellement, c’est ce téléphique qui est en cours de remplacement par un nouveau téléphérique…. le CabriO^® !

New funicular at Bad Wildbad (Germany)

The “Sommerbergbahn”, the funicular of Bad Wildbad in the Black Forest, has been completely renovated. The old cable car was replaced with a new one built by Garaventa with cars built by Gangloff. The inauguration took place on September 30, 2011.

Le “Sommerbergbahn”, le funiculaire de Bad Wildbad dans la Forêt Noire, vient d’être entièrement rénové. L’ancien funiculaire a été remplacé par un nouveau construit par Garaventa avec des voitures construites par Gangloff. L’inauguration a eu lieu le 30 septembre 2011.

Stoos 2013 will be the steepest funicular of Switzerland (110%)

Garaventa has won the contract to replace the funicular of Stoos in the canton of Schwyz in Central Switzerland.
Its project has just been revealed to the press and has some big surprises!
First, the main surprise is that this project is a funicular that will use a brand new route and not the track of the present funicular. The station of departure will be at about 400 meters from the today’s bottom station and located at the car parking.
This new funicular will be the steepest two-cabin funicular in the world with a maximum gradient of 110%.
Recall that the steepest funicular in the world is that of Katoomba in Australia with a maximum gradient of 122% but with only one car. However the new Stoos cable car will be the steepest in Switzerland, while Switzerland’s record is currently held by the Gelmerbahn with a slope of 106% and one car.
Another feature of the new Stoos funicular, it will have five compartments hinged so that the floors remain horizontal as the Fun’ambule Neuchâtel and Hungerburg Innsbruck.
It will be open for December 2013.

Stoos 2013 sera le funiculaire le plus pentu de Suisse (110%)

Garaventa vient de remporter le marché du remplacement du funiculaire de Stoos dans le canton de Schwitz en Suisse centrale.
Son projet vient d’être révélé à la presse et comporte quelques surprises de taille!
Tout d’abord la principale surprise, c’est que ce projet est un funiculaire qui empruntera un tout nouveau tracé et non pas la voie de l’actuel funiculaire. La gare de départ se trouvera à près de 400 mètres de la gare inférieure actuelle, à l’emplacement du parking pour voitures.
Ce nouveau funiculaire sera le funiculaire à deux cabines le plus pentu au monde avec une pente maximum de 110%.
Rappelons que le funiculaire le plus pentu au monde est celui de Katoomba en Australie avec une pente maximum de 122 % mais avec une seule voiture. Le nouveau funiculaire de Stoos sera cependant le plus pentu de Suisse alors que le record de Suisse est actuellement détenu par le Gelmerbahn avec une pente de 106 % et une seule voiture.
Autre caractéristique de ce nouveau funiculaire de Stoos, il comportera 5 compartiments articulés afin que les planchers restent toujours à l’horizontale comme sur le Fun’ambule de Neuchâtel et le Hungerburg d’Innsbruck.
Sa mise en service est prévue pour décembre 2013.

The new Penang Hill Funicular

After more than a year of inactivity, the new Penang Hill funicular in Malaysia re-opened on April 25, 2011.
The old funicular, composed of two sections, was definitively closed on February 25, 2010 and was entirely replaced by a modern funicular with a single section of 1996 meters length.
On May 3rd, 2011, after only a few days of operation, at 4:30 pm, a collision with an unidentified object (a stray dog? a boar? or perhaps sabotage) caused damage below a car and the funicular had to stop for a day.

Le nouveau funiculaire de Penang Hill

Après plus d’un an d’inactivité, le nouveau funiculaire de Penang Hill en Malaisie a été mis en service le 25 avril 2011.
L’ancien funiculaire, composé de deux sections, avait été arrêté définitivement le 25 février 2010 afin d’être entièrement remplacé par un funiculaire moderne mais avec un seule section de 1996 mètres.
Le 3 mai 2011, soit seulement après quelques jours d’exploitation, à 16:30, une collision avec un objet non identifié ( un chien errant, un sanglier? ou peut être un sabotage) cause des dégâts sous une des voitures et provoque l’arrêt du funiculaire pendant une journée.

Durban – Moses Mabhida Stadium SkyCar

You are not unaware that the football World Cup 2010 will take place from June 11 to July 11, 2010 in South Africa.
In Durban, a new stadium is being built: the Moses Mabhida Stadium, named after the former leader of the Communist Party of South Africa.
Its main feature is a great arch which surmounts and crosses the stadium from one end to the other. This arch has a shape which is similar to the ‘Y’ which is on the flag of South Africa. A three branches arch. The branch of the arch which corresponds to the foot of the ‘Y’ supports an rope inclined lift, the SkyCar. Opened stairways are located in the other two branches of the arch.
The Skycar has been built by Garaventa and put into service in 2009. The slope of the arch varies and the cabin remains horizontal.
During the last two months of operation there were two incidents. The latest incident, on Monday April 26 2010, the passengers were bloched at the top of the arch for two hours. In attempting to descend the stairs, a woman felt faint. It must be said that the opened stairway is composed of 550 steps.
It is possible to walk up to the top of the arch via the SkyWalk, the staircase on the opposite side of the elevator. The climb up is done with a safety harness.

Vous n’êtes pas sans ignorer que la Coupe du monde de football 2010 se déroulera du 11 juin au 11 juillet 2010 en Afrique du Sud.
A Durban, un nouveau stade vient d’être construit: le Moses Mabhida Stadium qui porte le nom de l’ancien chef du parti communiste sud-africain.
Sa principale caractéristique consiste en une immense arche qui surmonte et traverse le stade d’un bout à l’autre. cette arche a une forme qui s’apparente au ‘Y’ du drapeau de l’Afrique du Sud. Une arche à 3 branches. La branche de l’arche qui correspond au pied du ‘Y’ supporte un ascenseur incliné funiculaire, le SkyCar. Des escaliers à ciel ouvert sont logés dans les deux autres branches de l’arche.
Le SkyCar a été construit par Garaventa et mis en service en 2009. La pente de l’arche varie et la cabine reste toujours horizontale.
Durant les deux derniers mois de l’exploitation il y a eu deux incidents. Le dernier en date a bloqué les visiteurs au sommet de l’arche pendant deux heures. En tentant de redescendre par les escaliers, une femme a fait un malaise. Il faut dire qu’il y a 550 marches à ciel ouvert.
Il est possible de monter à pied au sommet de l’arche en empruntant le SkyWalk, l’escalier situé de l’autre côté de l’ascenseur. La montée à pied se fait avec un baudrier de sécurité.

Stanserhorn-Bahn – Le CabriO de Garaventa

Stanserhorn-Bahn vient de présenter son projet de nouveau téléphérique pour remplacer l’actuel qui relie Kätli, le terminus du funiculaire, au sommet du Stanserhorn.
Le secret semble avoir été bien gardé… il s’agit d’un téléphérique quasi révolutionnaire… le CabriO® de Garaventa.
Le CabriO® sera composé de cabines à deux étages avec l’étage supérieur à ciel ouvert comme une terrasse sur laquelle une trentaine de passagers pourront gouter aux sensations du vide et du vent. La terrasse communiquera par un escalier avec l’étage inférieur qui pourra contenir 60 passagers.
Autre particularité, il s’agira d’un téléphérique avec deux câbles porteurs et deux câbles tracteurs. Les cabines ne seront plus suspendues comme un pendule mais portées, disons épaulées, par les câbles qui passeront à mi hauteur des deux étages.
La mise en service est prévue pour mai 2012.

Stanserhorn-Bahn – The CabriO® from Garaventa

Stanserhorn-Bahn has just annonced its new aerial cable car project to replace the actual one which links Kätli, the top station of the funicular, to the summit of the Stanserhorn.
It was a well kept secret… it is quite a revolutionary aerial cable car… the CabriO® from Garaventa.
The CabriO® will be composed of double deck cabins. The top deck will be an open air deck on which the passengers will be able to feel the sheer drop and the fresh air. The open deck will communicate to the bottom deck with a little stair. The open deck will have a capacity of 30 passengers and 60 passengers for the bottom deck.
The CabriO® will be suspended onto two carrying cables and pulled by two tractor cables. The cabins will not be suspended anymore but they will be supported by the cables which will be at the middle level between the two decks.
This new aerial cable car will open on May 2012.
