A visit to Oberwald station at the end of the Goms… it is the opportunity to take some pictures of the MGB (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn), to see the status of the workshop of the future Oberwald DFB Station and also to look at the location of the future level crossing with retractable cog across the Furka Road.
Funicular Fribourg Neuveville – Saint Pierre (Switzerland)
The funicular Neuveville – St Pierre at Fribourg is 110 years old and this is the last water counterbalanced funicular of Switzerland
This is also the most environment-friendly funicular because the water which is used as counterweight is taken from the sewage system of the town.
Among the major events of 2009, it was unwise to forget the modernization of the funicular Bienne – Evilard (Biel – Leubringen) in the canton of Bern (Switzerland).
It was completely renovated in July 2009. The two cars that dated from the 60s were abducted July 6 and replaced the 27 and 28 July and have been scrapped (see Article Bienne – Evilard / L’image choc).
During the month of July, the track was completely replaced and modernized.
The stations Bienne and Evilard were renovated in May 2009 and the engine was changed in 2003.
Among my major highlights of this upgrade we can see the two new cars built by CWA. They move without a driver and only one person monitors the operation of the funicular from a control station in Evilard.
The funicular has finally been made available for disabled passengers. What need to redevelop the three stations. Only the car #2 (on east side) is accessible to wheelchairs, prams or bicycles. At the intermediate station in Beaumont, to benefit from this accessibility disabled must be present on the eastern side of the station and wait for the car #2 is present in the sense that he want to go. The car #2 always stops at centimeter in front of the door markers of accessibility. A metal plate then automatically fills the space between the car and the platform for easy access. The car #1 has no such requirement adjustment to platforms during stops, its position is more or less flexible and depends on the length of the cable which varies with temperature.
The funicular Bienne – Macolin (Biel – Magglingen) was modernized in 2001 and made accessible to disabled people (see Article FUNIC Biel – Magglingen).
