Thank you vary much for this most informative research. The Mahipar furnicular was connected with the hydrolectric project on the river for the power supply of Kabul.

Yes, there was a hydroelectic scheme at Mahipar, on the Kabul River 40 km downstream from Kabul. Though I don't know if the funicular was connected with this project.

Andrew> Thanks you for your comment and for the information's about these unrealized projects.
Thanks also for the link to the photo of this Mahipar Gorge incline. Well it seems that there are no many information about this incline... Was there any project to dig a tunnel in this place? Hydroelectric power plant project?

In the early 1950s there was a plan to build a new road in Afghanistan running north from Kabul via the Salong Pass, with a series of tunnels. The British ambassador reported that one suggestion "which held the field for some time [...] was that the greater part of the tunnelling could be avoided by a funicular railway, but the consequent need for double unloading seems to have led to this solution being discarded."

There was also some kind of funicular at Mahipar in 1965: see http://www.flickr.com/photos/gumtau/100765228/
