R.I.P. in Austria †

Some regretted Austrian cable cars disappeared forever … and we really miss …

Google Street View on rails

Great ad, Google Switzerland has officially announced the world premiere of Google Street View on rails!
For the first time the Google Street View 360° camera  comes away from the famous cars to be fixed on a platform driven by a train and not just any … on a train of Rhaetian Railway on the Albula / Bernina lines… two lines classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.

It’s here … Google Streetview on the Albula and Bernina Railroad

It is strongly recommended to view 360° photos in full screen.
Below are two examples of pictures in the Val Bever near the Albula tunnel exit : a front view and a rear view which reveals the platform pushed by a train RhB ABe Allegra 8-12.

Google Streetview on the Albula and Bernina Railroad

The 360° views are absolutely beautiful, autumn colors of vegetation are sublime. Unfortunately the pleasure is very short. You realize very quickly that this 360° view of Google Street View is only possible on a very short segment of the line at the exit of the Albula tunnel! Apart from this part there is no more than 360° views but only photos from Panoramio. Yet Google Street View mode map shows many sections of the line which are covered by the 360° views: Filisur Bergün, Val Bever, Punt Muralg to Pontresina and the Bernina Pass to Poschiavo. Only a small part of Val Bever is  covered with 360 ° views.
Great ad but great disappointment!
Other Swiss touristic attractions are much better presented in 360° views …. to see here.
