Mount Beacon Incline railway- Video from 1902

Great and rare video from 1902 of the Mount Beacon Incline Railway!
In the first half of the video, see the guy following the descending car on a small one seat carriage fitted with a manual brake. At the passing loop, he is obliged to get off the track because of the ascending car.
Mount Beacon is located in United States in New York State. The Mount Beacon Incline Railway was opened in 1901 and definitively closed in 1978.

Très intéressante et rare vidéo, datant de 1902, du funiculaire du Mount Beacon.
A noter durant la première moitié de la vidéo, l’employé du funiculaire qui descend la pente en suivant la voiture descendante assis sur un petit chariot roulant sur le rail extérieur et équipé d’un frein manuel. Au niveau de l’évitement central il est obligé de s’écarter de la voie afin de laisser passer la voiture montante.
Le Mount Beacon est situé dans l’état de New York (USA). Le funiculaire du Mount Beacon fut en service de 1901 à 1978.

Note that the Mount Beacon Incline Railway Restoration Society was created in 1996 to restore, operate and maintain the Incline Railway.

    Est-ce qu’on sait si l’employé sur le chariot avait une fonction particulière, s’il était là à chaque course ou bien juste occasionellement?

  2. Martin> Hi… yes it is the same as the workers at Mount Washington!

    Christophe> Non sûrement pas à chaque course, mais certainement à chaque fois qu’il devait y avoir une intervention à faire sur les voies ou alors c’était aussi la manière de faire redescendre les employés à la fin de la journée quand le service était interrompu.
    Sûrement que cet ouvrier a suivi la voiture ce jour là parce qu’il y avait ce cameraman qui filmait la descente…

    In Jenbach (Achenseebahn) die Riggenbach-rack was attached in intervalls with vertikal metal-sheets protruding a bit (ca. 2cm) over the rack. This was in order to avoid people to ride on the Rack on wood-slabs from Eben am Achensee to Jenbach during the night (it was said, that some drunk guys used this to slide down after long ours in an inn in Eben).
    I haven´t verified this story (it was told to me by my relatives living in Jenbach) but I think it´s worthy of credit.
