The Montmartre funicular is still stopped!

On December 7th 2006, during tests of the brakes, the cable was broken… since that day the funicular is stopped until the problem is analysed, solved and validated by the official autorities!

People have to use the Montmartre stairs which are 'hard for the destitutes'… Or they can take a substitute bus.

"The funicular of Montmartre is stopped due to a technical problem. It will be reopened as soon as possible. A substitute bus is at your disposal. Sorry for the inconvenience."

The west cabin is hidden under a tarpaulin and held by a cable fixed to the ground.

A curiosity at the top station!  The red arrows show the place of a BI-BOP stand telephone! (see below).
(voir ci-dessous).

A BI-BOP stand telephone! The first France Telecom mobile phone system (1990-1997) which was not a succes! That was only under that signs you were able to make a call with your mobile! If you see that colours (blue and green) somewhere in the streets of Paris, now you know!!!

  1. Was it really during a test ? I live nearby & when I was coming home around 21:30 there were ambulances all around the block & the cable car had crashed with the front window blown as if someone had gone through the window pane, & people lying around tended by police & ambulance people. Was it really a test ??? I can’t believe it. This sounds like the typical hush-hush imposed by authorities, as long as there was no real casualty. Who knows some more about it ? MarcusMarcus

  2. MarcusMarcus> If you live just nearby the funicular, you may know if the funicular was open to the public on December 7th 2006… I heard that there was one injured person who is a person who was doing the tests.
