Biel - Magglingen at the beginning of the century.

From 1887 to 1923 Biel - Magglingen was a water operated funicular.
Note that the configuration of the tracks was 3-4-3 and the presence of a second cable for the tension.
Note also the Riggenbach cog between the rails. Its was used as a brake for the descending carriage as you can see on the photo the conductor's right hand is holding the handle which operates the cog brake.
The same period as above but the photo was taken toward the bottom with the town of Biel in the background.
